Meet Steve
Stephen (“Steve”) Mallory, ICD.D, FCIP, CRM
Mr. Mallory leads Directors Global Risk Consulting Inc., a Toronto based firm which provides Risk Management advisory services for organizations located across Canada and internationally.
Previously Steve served as CEO and Region Head within two of Canada’s top insurance firms. In 2007, he founded Directors Global Insurance Brokers Ltd. (DGIBL) which merged with Benson Kearley IFG in June 2018. Currently, Steve also serves as an Account Executive with Benson Kearley IFG for clients previously handled by DGIBL.
He served from 2012 to 2017 on the board of VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Canadian Federal Crown Corporation, including as the Chair of the Governance, Risk and Strategy Committee and was a member of the Pension/Investment Committee. Previously he served from 2008 to 2012 as a director with the Standards Council of Canada, also a Federal Crown Corporation.
Since 2011, Steve has served as a member of the CSA Canadian Risk Management Mirror Committee TC 262, providing input on risk and safety standards for Canadians.
He has completed the Directors Education Programs at the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) and at the Government of Canada. He holds the CRM (Canadian Risk Management) and FCIP (Fellow, Chartered Insurance Professional) designations, and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
Steve teaches Risk Management to students at York University in the Masters of Financial Accountability program. He is also an instructor of Board Risk Oversight to participants of the Institute of Corporate Directors, DEP/ICD.D program, in conjunction with the Rotman Business School/ University of Toronto, and delivers the session at participating universities across Canada. Steve also teaches Risk Management to students enrolled in the accredited program offered across Canada by GPC (Governance Professionals of Canada).
In 2016, Steve authored a chapter in “The Handbook of Board Governance” (2016), by Dr. Richard A. Leblanc, and he is regularly quoted in Canadian business and risk industry publications.
Steve leads “Team Aqua”, a team of Toronto based business people and musicians working on behalf of The Global Aid Network (GAiN Canada). Team Aqua’s goal in 2018 is to raise funds to drill 10 waters wells, and supply 10,000 people in Africa with fresh, clean water. In 2015, he led Team “Change the World” which raised funds to drill five water wells in Africa, supplying 5,000 people with fresh, clean water.
